COVID-19 scams and cyber threats

We would like to take this opportunity to pass along some information on behalf of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

There have been reports of phone, email and text threats spreading misinformation and scams related to COVID-19 (see attached example). If you have any doubts about a communication you have received, delete it. Do not click on any links or open suspicious attachments or call phone numbers provided. Never give any personal information such as your social insurance number, your health card number or banking or credit card information by phone, email or text.

Please continue to be vigilant during these times, and visit the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s page to get more tips on how best to protect yourself against cyber threats.

If you become aware of or have been the victim of fraud or cybercrime, including COVID-19 scams and cyber threats, contact your local police non-emergency line and report online to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Fraud Reporting System.

Thank you,
