March 20, 2020

Dear Ugpi’ganjig community members;

A few important messages I wanted to share today. First, I hope you are all doing fine and adjusting to self-isolation. Second, the intended use of the grocery cards are for supplies needed to support self-isolation and keeping a sanitized home. You would have also received an information pamphlet taped to your door with a list of essentials. The important items are as follows:

Food: dried pasta, pasta sauces, canned foods, canned fruit and vegetables, pet food Hygiene: toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, diapers, facial tissue, soap, alcohol based hand sanitizer
Health care: thermometer, fever-reducing medications
Cleaning: paper towels, plastic garbage bags, dish soap, laundry detergent, household bleach, household cleaning products

Please ensure you have these items and please note that hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of germs, hand sanitizer is the next best option, only when hand washing is not possible.

Third, as N.B. is under a state of emergency, you will see most businesses are required to close their doors to the public with the exception of fuel providers, grocery stores, pharmacies, repair garages, post office, convenience stores, financial institutions, hardware and automotive parts, animal and fish feed providers, Alcohol NB, & Cannabis NB. We ask that businesses in the community follow the same mandatory order as per N.B. declaration of state of emergency.

Lastly, for today, the most important thing right now is to prevent coming into contact and spreading this virus which is why we all have to self-isolate. In order to prevent COVID 19 from entering our community, we need to stay proactive and practise preventative measures. Chief and Council is continuously working together to support everyone at this time. We will be issuing more grocery cards to the general population as we receive them.

Thank you for your collaboration,

Chief Sacha
