Councillor & Portfolio Update – Daniel Caplin

As your elected Councillor, I am honoured to lead the portfolios of Forestry and Sports, Parks & Recreation, while also supporting Education, Fisheries, and Off-Reserve Affairs.
My goal is to foster community well-being through land stewardship, youth engagement, and cultural programming.

Forestry
We’ve finalized a partnership with AV-Cell Mill to expand forestry operations — a major step toward job creation and economic strength.
The Moose Meadows initiative is also progressing. We’re working with the community to select a forested site that will serve as a cultural hub for events and the annual moose hunt.

Sports, Parks & Recreation
Registration is now open for the Bauer First Shift Hockey Program, running Fall 2025 to Spring 2026 for boys and girls ages 6–10.
The program kicks off with a Welcome Event on November 27, 2025 in Ugpi’ganjig.
Participants receive full Bauer gear, fitting sessions, and weekly instruction over six sessions.
Refunds (minus a small fee) are available up to 24 hours before the Welcome Event.

Summer Sports Events
In July, I served as Community Manager for the 2025 Indigenous Summer Championships, overseeing volleyball in Woodstock and basketball in Burnt Church.
Planning is now underway for the 2026 Summer Games, hosted at Tobique First Nation, with a focus on strong community representation.

Fisheries
Our Striped Bass Project is moving forward. In 2025, we’ve partnered with Pabineau First Nation to fish the Nepisiquit River.
In 2026, we will launch our own striped bass fishery — entirely equipped and managed by our community — advancing fisheries sovereignty and cultural renewal.

Our Community Moose Hunt will continue in 2025 after last year’s success.
Moose Meadows will evolve into a designated outdoor space for gatherings, ceremonies, and seasonal events.

Looking Ahead

  • Roll out AV-Cell forestry operations and job opportunities

  • Host Bauer First Shift Welcome Event (Nov 27)

  • Complete summer championships and plan for 2026 Games

  • Finalize striped bass efforts and launch independent fishery

  • Continue Moose Meadows development with community input
