Update from Councillor D LaBillois Bjorndal

Councillor D LaBillois Bjorndal Update

During my campaign, I promised that I would be transparent about all activities I take part in on our community’s behalf. The week of September 2nd-5th, 2025, I will be serving as Proxy for Chief Chris George, as he is unable to attend the AN (Assembly of First Nations) Annual General Assembly.

It is important that we have representation at these meetings, to ensure that we exercise our right to vote on resolutions and take home important information that is shared at these National Forums. Some of the agenda items include:

  • Closing the First Nations Infrastructure Gap
  • Dr. Cindy Blackstock presenting on a More Robust Agreement
  • Systemic Racism and Advancing First Nation Policing
  • Harm Reduction Strategies and Substance Abuse
  • Repatriation of Artifacts (held at Museums and other)
  • UNDRIP Article 11

The resolutions that I have been given the task to vote on, will represent the collective voices of Chief, Councillors and Directors to ensure we use Ugpi’ ganjig’s vote wisely.

I will represent our community with good faith while in Winnipeg. I will take time to network with DABLE, on the upcoming Early Childhood Centre, with the intent to explore solutions and funding opportunities. I will also touch bases with the Law Firm representing our Sand & Gravel claim. I am certain it will be a productive week.

If you need to contact me while I am away, you can contact me by phone 506-

686-0016 or by email d.bjorndal@eelriverbar.ca. I will reply as soon as possible, please be mindful of the 2 hour time difference.

Thank you again Ugpi’ganjig
