Message from the Capital, Housing & Infrastructure Department Regarding Heat Pump Requests
On behalf of the Capital, Housing & Infrastructure Department, we would like to provide information regarding heat pump requests.
We have received an influx of requests for heat pumps and/or heat pump repairs and maintenance. At this time, heat pumps are considered a luxury item and do not fall under major health and safety concerns. Currently, we are unable to address requests for new heat pump installations and/or heat pump maintenance and repairs.
We still encourage you to contact the Housing Department so that we can record these requests and develop a plan to address maintenance and repair needs in the future.
For all requests for new heat pumps, we are currently partnering with NB Power, which offers an Energy Efficiency Program that fully funds the installation of new heat pumps. The program is targeting older homes first, with a goal of completing 20 homes per year until all homes in the community have been included.
We recognize that it may take time to address everyone’s request, but this is the most sustainable option and places the least amount of strain on the Housing Department’s budget.
Lastly, we encourage all Ugpi’ganjig Community Members to take pride in their homes and, when able, address maintenance and repairs as they arise. Together, we can ensure that our 265 homes in Ugpi’ganjig remain standing tall and beautiful for the next seven generations.
Wela’lin – Thank you – Merci
