Notice to community members regarding food distribution.

Kwe Ugpi’ganjig

Since the onset of Covid-19 in March, Chief & Council and the Pandemic Response Team have worked diligently to bring much-needed resources to the community. The reality of the pandemic is the fragility and importance of food security and preparedness. \v’e view this as a critical item for Ugpi’ganjig in the coming months.

During the closure, we worked closely to secure household items and food for community members in the event that food scarcity was an issue. Although it’s not an immediate issue we’ve considered the financial disparities some may be facing, along with planning for future food security. Chief and Council came to the decision to distribute these packages for our community members. We trust your discretion for consumption or storage according to current circumstances.

On August 17th packages for community members will be available by pick up at the Aboriginal Heritage Gardens. We will also have delivery available for the Elders, please call 506-684-4807 and leave a message to have your delivery confirmed.

The well-being of our community members is paramount to myself and the rest of council. Our primary goal since inauguration day has been to serve our community members to our best capacity. The pandemic has been no exception, this food security initiative is only part of the work that we will continue to do to meet the needs of our community during these unprecedented times.

Sincerely,

Chief Sacha LaBillois-Kennedy
