Ugpi’Ganjig Fisheries Plan – Community Input Meetings
Chief and Council wish to announce a process by which the community will be asked to help develop a comprehensive fisheries management and development plan.
This initiative is crucial for preserving our traditional fishing practices, ensuring sustainable resource management, and promoting economic opportunities for our community.
The plan will be put together through a series of meetings with four groups from the community: elders, women, youth, and a meeting with fishermen and other members of the community who did not participate in the first three meetings. The meetings will be facilitated by a fisheries consultant.
At the end of the process there will be one general meeting to review what was put forward by each working group with the intend of arriving at the content of a comprehensive Fisheries Management Plan that will be voted on by the community. Please Join us in shaping the future of our fisheries.
Your knowledge, experience, concerns, and vision are invaluable to this process. The first series of meetings will be held between Tuesday, February 4th and Thursday February 6th and the second between Wednesday February 26th and Friday, February 28th. The dates for the third series of meetings to be held in March will be announced at a later date.
