Updates From Councillor Daniel Caplin

Community Moose Harvesting Event Update

From October 24–26, our community came together for a meaningful and successful Moose Harvesting Campaign to support both our on and off Reserve members with fresh, traditional food. We are proud to share that our team respectfully harvested 10 bull moose, providing almost 5,000 pounds of meat for our community. This initiative reflects our shared values of teamwork, cultural tradition, and caring for one another.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed, those out on the land, and those working behind the scenes. Your dedication made this project a true success.

Ugpi’ganjig Forestry update 2025.

We completed the 2025 harvesting season with strong progress on our community’s Crown wood allocation. Ugpi’ganjig’s forestry department manages an annual allocation of 10,000 m³ of softwood and 2,800 m³ of hardwood, and this year those volumes were harvested and sold to support community programs and local jobs. Our Forestry Department continues to follow best practices for sustainable stewardship and water source protection while maximizing the economic benefits for community members.

Community Outdoor Rink Now Open!

We’re happy to share that the community outdoor rink is officially open for public use. As you enjoy the facility throughout the season, we kindly ask everyone to be respectful of both the heated room and the ice surface so that all users can continue to enjoy a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Our outdoor rink is being maintained and managed by Jordan Caplin, a highly experienced rink attendant who takes great pride in creating safe, fun spaces for all ages. We appreciate Jordan’s dedication and the care he puts into keeping the rink in top condition.

We also extend a sincere thank-you to my fellow council member, Mr. D. Labillois, for successfully securing funding for the recent upgrades, including improvements to the surface flooring and the installation of new fencing around the rink boards. These enhancements have made the facility safer and more enjoyable for everyone.

As a reminder, all rink users are encouraged to wear a helmet and appropriate protective equipment while on the ice.

Enjoy the season, and skate safely!
